WHY JOIN CUB SCOUTING?

Your time is valuable. More than ever, today’s families strive to find quality time to spend together. Cub Scouting helps to support your family by providing ready-made opportunities for you and your son to do things together.

Cub Scout-age children benefit developmentally from belonging to a group of children their own age. Through this sense of belonging, they build self-esteem and learn to get along with others.

As a parent, you want to be assured that the groups that your child joins will teach values consistent with good citizenship, character development, and physical fitness. The Boy Scouts of America has been weaving these lifetime values into fun and educational activities since 1910.

In a society where your son or daughter is taught that winning is everything, Cub Scouting teaches to “do their best” and to be helpful to others.

Scouting teaches family values and works to strengthen your relationship with your son or daughter. Scouting activities can bring added value to the time you already have with your child.

They will learn to live by the code of “On my honor.” But we know that they do not join Cub Scouting just to get their character built. Boys and Girls join because it is fun. And fun is at the heart of everything Cub Scouts do— from exploring natural habitats to building model cars and robots to trying sports like archery or telling stories around a campfire. Boys and Girls in Cub Scouting might be learning great lessons, but they’re far too busy having fun to notice.

WHAT DOES CUB SCOUTS COST?

Pack Dues / Registration Fees primarily pay administrative BSA costs (insurance and training). What is left over, we combine with our fund raising money to pay for Pack awards, supplies, and events (Pinewood Derby, Christmas Party, Blue and Gold banquet, Graduation Party, etc...).

Pack 1195 Dues are $200 per year, per Scout.
*No youth will be turned away for an inability to pay the Participation
Fee. NCAC has always provided financial assistance when needed and will continue to do so.

*Adults - No registered adult will incur a participation fee. Pack 1195 Dues are collected one of two ways o As new Scouts join Cub Scouts for the first time they will register online and pay approximately $195 which covers the BSA and Council participation fees, a one-time new Scout registration fee and an administrative fee.
o If you pay online (which is the easiest and quickest way to get registered) then you will pay the difference between the roughly $195 for what you paid online and the $200 total Pack Dues (e.g. ~$5) to the Pack Treasurer.

For Scouts transferring from another Pack, your current registration for the current or
previous year is valid until its expiration date.

Renewal for all others is in the fall. Pack dues are collected in or about October so he Pack can re-charter. Renewals are collected by the Pack Treasurer and sent in with our Recharter application. We cannot recharter (exist) without dues for ALL Scouts paid in full at the time of renewal.

The NCAC Participation Fee
After an intensive 18-month strategic planning process, NCAC’s volunteer Executive Board determined that our Scouts would be better served by a local Council Participation Fee that would provide consistent revenue and be more equitable to those who support our Scouts. Families with three (3) or more Scouts will be capped at paying three (3) Participation Fees. Scouts participating in more than one program will pay one (1) Participation Fee.

Why is there a Council Participation Fee?
NCAC works tirelessly to deliver a safe and high-quality Scouting program to our families in a cost-effective manner. Today it annually costs $240 per youth to deliver this quality Scouting program.

In prior years, NCAC has subsidized 100% of this cost through corporate donations, major gifts, foundations, fundraising events, board donations, and our Family Friends of Scouting campaign. However, in recent years, the combination of a steady decline in participation in our Family Friends of Scouting — less than 10% of all families in Scouting — and the volunteer and professional costs required to maintain this campaign has made it impractical to continue this model.

Nationwide, we have seen many other local councils successfully transition to this participation fee model, while focusing on membership growth. This change will also allow our staff and volunteer time to directly support our units and programs instead of soliciting contributions.
